The statement of Univision when their Entertainment Division group ended ties with Miss Universe Organization

“Today the entertainment division of Univision Communications Inc. announced that it is ending the Company’s business relationship with the Miss Universe Organization, which is part-owned by Donald J. Trump, based on his recent, insulting remarks about Mexican immigrants.
At Univision we see first-hand the work ethic, love for family, strong religious values and the important role Mexican immigrants and Mexican-Americans have had and will continue to have in building the future of our country. We will not be airing the Miss USA pageant on July 12th or working on any other projects tied to the Trump Organization.
Univision News and the local news division will continue to provide comprehensive coverage of all candidates, including Mr. Trump, to ensure our audience continues to have access to all points of view.“
When Univision released a statement this week declaring that their Entertainment Division has effectively cut ties with Donald Trump’s Miss Universe Organization after the latter’s offensive remarks about Mexican immigrants, it automatically follows that other Latino fronts will take the former’s side. And this includes the likes of Roselyn Sanchez (who was supposed to host Miss USA 2015 which will no longer be aired in their networks) and Lupita Jones (who handles Miss Universe Mexico).
But if you will notice, the statements were still play-safe because Univision knows for a fact that they can never and will never totally abandon Miss Universe Pageant. Totally withdrawing from the same in any form of coverage is like forsaking the Holy Grail and dropping an event that is considered essential and celebratory among Latinos in all parts of the world. So the News Division will still be in play. After all, they can’t afford to let their loyal viewers look resourcefully for their Miss Universe fix elsewhere.
As for Donald, his pronouncements against the Mexican immigrants are indications that Miss Universe may have already taken the backseat (hopefully not the trunk, God forbid) in his list of priorities after declaring his US Presidential bid. And this could be a source of disappointment for everyone following the beauty contest.
What will happen in the next few months will tell what lies ahead for both parties. I will follow this closely. :-/
