Her name is Jacqueline Guiking. Her father is Dutch, and her mother is Filipina – from Marinduque to be exact. But she is also an all-around Aussie girl. And she is one of the finalists for Miss World Australia 2015 scheduled to have its coronation night on August 30
25 year-old Jacqui is a Clinical Psychology major whose artistic talents come to life with the use of paint and pencils. According to this article by Sam Norris in the Maitland Mercury,
“as a performance piece she has designed and painted a garment that promotes cultural diversity – something she knows a lot about being half Dutch and Filipino…”
As for the advocacy, she is focused on education and awareness, with a special bent on childhood respiratory problems. Her active fundraising efforts will help in the purpose. But before she can run full steam ahead, Jacqui needs to get the national crown from reigning winner Courtney Thorpe first.
Let’s hope Jacqui does. She may look more caucasian to you, but her Filipino side is still richly textured in terms of personality. :-)
