During the last decade at the very least, the annual Team Asia in Miss Universe has grown by leaps and bounds in terms of preparations and competitiveness. Each country in the continent has adapted exacting means to bring their respective bets up to par with counterparts in Latin America and Europe, even Down Under.
Significant credit goes to the victory of Riyo Mori of Japan in Mexico last 2007 plus the four-peat Top 5 placements of the Philippines from 2010-2013. Every year, the official handlers of Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Korea and Vietnam have tried to keep pace with the bar that we continuously set high every year. And with some decent measures of success at that.
For the current edition, the Asian girls are proving that they are indeed a force to reckon with. Aside from our very own Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, I can name a few more with good fighting chances for placement. There are Ariana Miyamoto of Japan, Aniporn Chalermburanawong of Thailand and Pham Huong of Vietnam.
How about you, dear readers? Who’s taking your fancy among them? :-)
