A knockout combination of sweet, beautiful and intelligent.

A knockout combination of sweet, beautiful and intelligent.

21 year-old Hannah Mariz dela Guerra is probably one of the sweetest girls I’ve ever met. She has no pretensions whatsoever. I reckon that, without the long gown/make-up/accessories, she will come across as the attractive girl next door a neighbor would love to spend time playing video games and talking gadgets with. After all, she is a certified techie (who works at Hewlett-Packard) and a darn good one at that.

The extra plus points, though, register so easily when talking to her in person. Aside from a beautiful face and a tall enough frame, she talks and smiles so sincerely. What’s more, a wholesome personality shines through. Read her Q&A below and tell me what you think.

1. What are the advantages/disadvantages of an IT expert (beautiful geek, in other words) like you joining a tough beauty competition like Bb. Pilipinas?

“I think one advantage of being in IT is that I’m already used to working efficiently even with lack of sleep (I heard we might not have much time to rest especially when coronation night is near). I also tend to think logically first, which can help a lot because beauty competitions as tough as Bb. Pilipinas not only requires a strong body but also a strong mind.”

2. How are you preparing yourself for all the pre-pageant activities where the top favorites and hyped contenders are always given the spotlight? How do you plan to stand out?

“I focus on things that matter. I’ve always believed that the only hindrance between me and my goals is myself. Joining Bb. Pilipinas has pushed me to take a good, honest look at who I am now and to work on areas where I need improvement so that I can be the best that I can be. I haven’t really thought about how I will stand out.. Maybe I’ll have my own particular style of walking or do splits to catch your attention (I kid) but right now, I think my best bet is my persona.”

3. Do you believe that good luck (or the lack of it) plays an important role in winning a pageant?

“I do not believe in luck but I do believe in destiny. No matter the result though, it is more important that we give it our best shot. That way, we will emerge as better persons and there will be no room for regrets.”

4. If I were your fairy Godmother and can grant you just two wishes instead of three, which two among the following recipients will you wish them for: yourself, your family or the Philippines?

“My first wish will be for my family to always have good health and peace. My family has always been there for me and it will be the least I can do to return the favor. The last wish will be for the betterment and growth of the Philippines. I know a lot more people need a granted wish more than I do especially after the onslaught of so many casualties and horrific events our country has gone through. I find no reason to keep a wish all to myself because I know I will be much more fulfilled knowing that I have made other people happy.”
