Inspired by the beautiful photographs taken by Rita Marie Abiog of Binibini 8 Pia Wurtzbach, I am starting my once-a-day “Crown-ticipating” series of blog posts as we usher in the final thirteen (13) days leading to the coronation night of Bb. Pilipinas 2014 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
So what’s in store for this battle-ready Fil-German eye candy? A lot, I reckon.
I remember the story of a friend who intimated to me that around the early part of the 3rd quarter of 2013, Madame Stella Marquez de Araneta allegedly asked Pia pointblank if she is seriously interested in being sent abroad for an international pageant. The BPCI Head is willing to find an available franchise where she can be fielded. Not to the former’s surprise, the latter respectfully declined the offer because she is more motivated to re-join and try her luck in vying for the crown that would hopefully make her the successor of Ariella Arida.
And as things turned out to be, the Bb. Pilipinas 2013 1st Runner-Up held true to her plans and is now deep into the 2014 pre-pageant activities with a clear mission in mind: to land on top and wear the Philippine sash in Fortaleza, Brazil for Miss Universe 2014.
I have no doubts whatsoever that Pia Wurtzbach has the edge nobody else among the remaining 39 contenders enjoy. But to turn that edge into an expected denouement reminiscent of what happened to Janine Tugonon in 2012 is something that cannot be easily duplicated, at least not when many pageant fans and followers of Bb. Pilipinas might be led into thinking that the new approach to becoming the Miss Universe rep is to land 1st Runner-Up the previous year.
Whatever the final results will hold inside the envelope that will be read by the hosts on March 30, Binibini 8 is not about to let her guards down, especially at this point when the approaching homestretch has her installed as one of the strongest favorites to claim victory.
