Well, of course, classifying Christopher Michael Olwage as the best gay man in the world would be taking things a bit too far. But this Kiwi can be aptly called Mr. Gay World 2013 after he defeated 28 other gay men from all over in the finals hosted by Antwerp, Belgium.

Let’s get to know more about this guy from Aotreroa:
“I am a fitness Instructor as my full time employment. I also work as a group fitness instructor, dance teacher and professional dancer on the side. I’d love to do more performing but finding dance work is hard in these times so I work in the fitness indutry to maintain my personal standards and help others reach theirs. My future plans involve creating performance art works and directing/choreographing shows. I wish to create interdisciplinary and sensory art experiences that provide viewers and artists a way to share in unison a process, emotion or theme.

I Paint, sculpt and create art as a hobby. I have several works in collections and galleries in Europe and New Zealand. Furthermore, I love Gymnastics and still occassionally attend recreational classes. I love theatre and the arts and especially Ballet. If i had an evening free i’d bake a treat, find a DVD and invite a friend over for some much needed socializing.

So what kind of life awaits Christopher after being conferred a title that carries a more weighty responsibility for the welfare of gay men around the world? Nothing much by way of spreading honest-to-goodness peace and goodwill to all nations, I reckon. But more of showing a sincere and concerned self in regularly speaking on behalf of the concerns that are important to the sector of society he represents. It could be shouting out for more AIDS awareness or cheering at the Gay Olympics or simply appearing in fund-raising events that have meaningful contribution to people like us. ;-)

P.S. By the way, the Philippines’ Erimar Sayo Ortigas made it to the Top 10 of the same event.
