Weluree Ditsayabut: A “shorter” Miss Thailand Universe for 2014

I have always perceived Thais to give a high premium on the outstanding height of their beauty queens. So it is with a pleasantly novel surprise that the new Miss Thailand Universe is a lady from Kanchanaburi who is barely 170cm tall. Weluree Ditsayabut was crowned winner over the more hyped favorite 5’11″ Pimbongkod Chankaew who snagged 1st Runner-Up honors instead. Sunnanipar Kritsanasuwan completed the Top 3 by being named 2nd Runner-Up. And unlike like last year’s Top 5, only a troika of beauties took the podium stand by being the best in the batch of 40 candidstes.

Perhaps, the judges have finally taken a cue from our Bb. Pilipinas in that the winner need not be the tallest but the most deserving. And the new winner has such a pretty homegrown look that could finally give the Land of Smiles a good fighting chance in Miss Universe given the right styling and preparation.

The best thing about Weluree is that she has such a showbiz-friendly face and height that can easily prompt Khun Dang (their Madame Stella) to groom her for a career on TV and movies after her reign.
