Maybelle Pameroyan: A Teacher for Mother Earth

If all English Teachers look like 23 year-old Maybelle Pameroyan of Sta. Barbara, Pangasinan, no student would skip classes. That is already power ingrained in her being a beautiful educator inside the classroom. And from that platform, she can always segue to the meaningful sharing of knowledge about the environment to her students, as I’m sure she has already started doing prior to joining the forty-five (45) other candidates for Miss Philippines Earth 2016.

“As a public school teacher, my advocacy is #EducationEqualsRightfulActionsForMotherEarth wherein teaching the importance of proper waste management, reforestation, energy conservation will be given more emphasis on. This will not concern only one aspect of the environment but it will cover its entirety (land, water, air and ecotourism as well). I believe that CHANGE STARTS FROM WITHIN. We may have the newest products of modern technology but if we are not educated well enough what we’ve been doing wrong for the past decades and on what we could do to alter it all, our Mother Earth will still continue to die. Seminars and workshops will be effective ways to inform others especially the youth of today. Social media may also be used to spread important information on the current state of our environment. Reaching out to different establishments specially schools would be of great help to make a change. Truly, I believe the lines of the late Napoleon Hill, whatever your mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve. We can achieve everything for Mother Earth with enough knowledge, and initiative leading to action.”

Maybelle can teach about the environment to her students (Photo credit: Joy Arguil)

And what is Maybelle’s best argument to win the crown of MPE2016?

I want to be Miss Philippines Earth 2016 because I believe that its advocacy of promoting environmental awareness will be of great help to the present generation and future generations. I certainly want to be a part of this advocacy. The Earth is deteriorating as time passes by and I really think being Miss Philippines Earth 2016 will be a great avenue for me to be able to reach out and educate more people on global warming and our role putting a stop to it.

Maybelle Pameroyan is grateful for being given the chance to take part in a national beauty contest. For her voice to be heard is already an achievement. And if she can push it further and place well in the finals, then the challenge would be to widen the reach of her advocacy and become a certified Teacher for Mother Earth.:-)

The five bets of Designer Bing Cristobal in MPE2016 (Photo credit: Joy Arguil)

Next in line for my features on the Miss Philippines Earth 2016 candidates is a group of five (5) ladies who share one person in common – Designer Bing Cristobal (or Mama Bing to yours truly) who takes care of all their needs wardrobe and styling for the competition.

I have previously blogged about one of them – Loren Mar Artajos of Laoag City – so far. Here are the four others on the list.

There is April Angelique Arciaga, 23, of Muntinlupa City who is a Nursing graduate.

She is followed by future Chemist Riji Anne Mae Canog of the City of Sta. Rosa who – like Miss Universe Philippines 2013 Ara Arida – graduated from UP Los Baños with the same degree. She is also 23.

23 year-old Mass Communication graduate Jennifer Mangaring of Las Piñas City is fourth.

And the lady from Zamboanga City – Bellatrix Tan – rounds up the circle of five contenders. She is 20 and currently studying at the Ateneo de Zamboanga University.

So after watching the Eco-Beauty videos of the five Earth warriors above, who are you liking among them? Who has the best chance of making it to the top on June 11?:-)

Throwback Thursday: Maria Isabel Lopez from Lima to Cannes

Bb. Pilipinas Universe 1982 Maria Isabel Lopez has come a long way from Lima, Peru to Cannes, France

First off, watch the opening number of Miss Universe 1982 and count how many times you can spot Miss Philippines Maria Isabel Lopez in the exciting march and rigodon-laden choreography of this edition.

courtesy of Alexa2224

Fast forward to 2016.

Now this is not the first time that Maribel actually made an appearance in Cannes for a movie she appeared in. But take note of how she actually got sexier as she matured. The video and photo comparison below of how she looked like as Binibini 15 of Bb. Pilipinas 1982 and during the recent World Premiere of “Ma’ Rosa” where she wore a green Albert Andrada number is proof that she was able to maintain her figure. Improved even, I might add.

It’s interesting to note how the figure of Maria Isabel Lopez even improved from close to 35 years ago today

Miss Philippines Earth 2016: My Running Favorites

With forty-six (46) candidates vying for just one crown, it is tough zeroing in on one lady who can zoom to the top and stay permanently in the #1 spot till the finals night. But this is Miss Philippines Earth. The first five (5) placements are already considered titleholders, with the next five (5) sashed as runners-up to the magic circle of elemental crown-wearers.

After the Press Presentation last May 16, it made things relatively easier for your blogger to share his running favorites. And at this juncture, it would be safe to say that the ladies who have strong chances to perform well at the Historic Aguinaldo Shrine on June 12 are Imelda Schweighart of Puerto Princesa City and Kiara Giel Gregorio of London. These two ladies are on a see-saw battle for the title of Angelia Ong.

But then again, the presence of consistent performers Tim Alsowyed of Dumaguete City, Shannon Bridgman of Rosales, Pangasinan and Ellyz Santos of Laoang, Northern Samar cannot be ignored. They complete my First 5 so far.

First five on my list for MPE2016 (Photo credit: Joy Arguil)

Now pageants are always full of surprises. So I wouldn’t overlook the chances of Evening Gown Competition winner Melanie Mader of Austria and Darling of the Press Liza Cacho of Anda, Pangasinan. Why, even the remaining candidates who made it as Hana Beauties of Nature should be given the edge to figure out well in the final tally. And they are Anna Mae Cagurangan of Piat, Cagayan, Korinna Christiene Reyes of the City of San Fernando, Jessica Zevenbergen of Murcia, Negros Occ. and Loren Artajos of Laoag City.

6-10 on my running list for MPE2016 (Photo credit: Joy Arguil)

11-15 on my running list for MPE2016 (Photo credit: Joy Arguil)

Finally, I am giving my temporary wild cards to Niña Sherra Tagalog of Palo, Leyte, Athena Catriz of the City of San Pedro, Maybelle Pameroyan of Sta. Barbara, Pangasinan and the Fire Fighter herself, Angelyn Pasaporte Presidente of Pototan, Iloilo.

The list will still change in some areas, for sure. But for now, these are the fifteen Earth warriors I am seeing as solid bets to make the cut in Miss Philippines Earth 2016.:-)

Tonight is the night for Slimmers World Miss Bikini Philippines 2016!

I selected eight (8) sexy stunners to give the Miss Bikini Philippines 2016 title a good fight

This is judgment night for Slimmers World Miss Bikini Philippines 2016 at the Newport Performing Arts Theater of Resorts World Manila. And instead of picking a Top 10 or Top 12 among the thirty (30) competitors for the crown (currently being held by MPE2016 contestant Ma. Fatima “Tim” Alsowyed), I opted to share just eight (8) who – in my opinion – stood out during the Pre-Pageant where the Swimsuit, Creative Posing and Evening Gown segments were judged.

I remain solid with my Top 3 choices – Christine Opiaza, Ivy Tapic and Clarise Perez – since there will be one big winner and two runners-up after all.

One of these three ladies could be the successor of Tim Alsowyed (Photo credit: Joy Arguil)

Of course, spoilers are always waiting in the wings to steal the thunder from the front-runners. I am choosing Geri Camargo (a standout 16 year-old), Sollaire Rallos (the openly gay candidate among the ladies) and Rufaida Babudin (who has really improved a lot compared to her MWP2012 days).

My spoilers for the title – Geri, Sollaire and Rufaida (Photo credit: Joy Arguil)

Whoever wins tonight, congratulations in advance! You will be in for a whole new world of health, fitness and glam!😀

Just as I predicted, Christine Opiaza took it all the way to the top and never held back. She was crowned Slimmers World Miss Bikini Philippines 2016 at the end of the pageant finale inside Newport Performing Arts Theater inside Resorts World Manila. She succeeded 2015’s Tim Alsowyed. 1st Runner Up is Regine Anillo, while Ivy Tapic (another predicted Top 3 finisher) took 2nd Runner-Up.

Opiaza also won Special Awards such as Best in Creative Posing and Miss Personality by Spectrum Med.

Congratulations to the three winners!

For your viewing and appreciation, dear readers – the Bragais™ Bride Wedding Collection as so enchantingly modeled by Bb. Pilipinas Supranational 2014 Yvethe Marie Santiago.

This latest output from my favorite shoemaker and “anak” Jojo Bragais is a step away from the usual pageant platform and tower heels he has been mostly known for the past number of years. The pairs resulted from an inspired take on brides and weddings, especially during this period of the year when the “marry month” of June is fast approaching.

Megan Young & Mikael Daez in Tokyo

Miss World 2013 Megan Young and TV/Film Actor Mikael Daez are currently on a holiday break in Tokyo. With the sweet couple in between teleseryes at the moment, the Land of the Rising Sun seems to be always the perfect choice for a vacation around the region. From morning breakfasts at Tsukiji Market to strolls around the quieter streets of Tokyo all the way to meaningful glances inside the subway – truly pictures speak louder than words in the modern jet-setting love story of the two.

I love how they handle the relationship in the eyes of many. No sweetness overload. Just sincere nuances and affection for each other.

No more, but mean more.:-)

From the same Davao team that trained and brought Jehza Huelar to Aces & Queens in Manila where she was polished even more and achieved a 2nd Runner-Up placement during Bb. Our representative is currently in fierce competition mode for the contest being hosted in Beirut, Lebanon. And she is seriously eyeing the big win #ForThePhilippines.

It won’t be a walk in the park. And neither will it be a quick zoom to the top because Aiza’s fellow delegates are just as determined to place well. But I know that she will be giving her best efforts. And to take home the honor is something that will give her vindication at the end of the day.

Over the weekend, the forty-six (46) Official Candidates of Miss Philippines Earth 2016 trooped to Hotel Pontefino and Residence in Batangas for the annual Resort Wear Competition of the pageant.

Each one of them brought bright summer-ready outfits that made it extra tough for the judges to decide on who wore the best attire and which resort wears really stood out. In the final tally, Rachelle Quiñones of Lubang, Occidental Mindoro got Gold, with Bellatrix Tan of Zamboanga City settling for Silver and Niña Sherra Tagalog of Palo, Leyte copping Bronze.

At the same time, major sponsor titles were handed out with Krissandra Marie Abel of Lobo, Batangas getting the nod as Miss Pontefino Hotel. Meanwhile, top favorite Imelda Schweighart of Puerto Princesa City was chosen as Miss Pontefino Residence.

Here are photos from the event.

Sharyl Diana Catchillar for MTP2016: Born in Milan, raised in the Philippines

Sharyl Diana Catchillar for Miss Tourism Philippines 2016

In the ongoing Miss Tourism Philippines 2016 competition, there is one candidate with a relatively unique back story. She was born in Milan, Italy where learning the “buon giornos”, “grazie” and “prego” came ahead of mastering “magandang umaga” and “salamat”. Her name is Sharyl Diana Catchillar of Pangasinan.

But there is more to Sharyl – who was eventually raised in the province she now represents in the pageant – than meets the eye. Read her interesting profile.

Born in Milan, Italy but grew up in the Philippines, SHARYL DIANA CATCHILLAR will represent the Crystal Province of the West—Pangasinan in the Miss Tourism Philippines 2016. This statuesque beauty stands at 5 feet and 7 inches with a measurement of 32-24-36, a morena who exudes both confidence and intelligence. Although most of her adult life was spent in the Philippines, Sharyl speaks Italian fluently.

A child of overseas Filipino workers, Sha, as her family and closest friends call her, learned to live independently at a young age, her Tita’s taught her to be self-reliant God fearing and despite all her achievements, she has remained humble. Having been exposed to such responsibility would later on prepare her for more demanding tasks such as finishing her college degree on BS Biology at St. Scholastica’s College Manila, putting up and managing her own business, and most importantly, her passion for joining local beauty pageants to promote her native province, Panganisan.

Known as the gateway of the West in Luzon, whose people are known for perseverance and resilience, the name of the province Pangasinan came from the word ASIN, or the crystal(s) of the sea, which symbolizes preservation and good health. The province is well-known for its beautiful and pristine beaches. It is also notable for its delectable food and delicacies such as the famed Calaciao Puto, Urdaneta Tupig, Dagupan Bangus, bagoong and patis; a favorite in any Filipinohousehold. The province also takes pride of its fervent Catholic faith exemplified through the people’s devotion to the miraculous Virgin Mary or most prominently known as ‘’Our Lady of Manaoag,” the patron saint of the province.

Sharyl would also like to pursue her dream to become a medical doctor and take up a Master’s Degree in Molecular Medicine. It is her lifelong dream to serve the underprivileged especially her beloved kababayans.

The opportunity to live in two different countries has given Sharyl a wider perspective of the world. In her heart and mind, she is proud to be an example of a modern Filipina who is educated, courageous to face all the challenges, determined to purse her goals, and resilient—one who never gives up and will always rise above failures.

Catriona Gray in Pablo Cabahug

A sneak peek into Catriona’s possible BWAP project?

And the signs are beginning to show. You simply need to check on Catriona Gray’s social media accounts and the hints are unraveling slowly but surely – like a gameplan waiting to be put into action.

I can feel her extra visible presence these days. For starters, her latest fashion photos are already indications of the top model competition entries for Miss World Philippines 2016, just as the following Facebook update is a crystallizing peek into what her Beauty With A Purpose (BWAP) Project might be.

Bright Beginnings Project? The acronym is curiously BBP (or haven’t you noticed?), but not to really make a significant connection with what some of you could be led into thinking.

“Progress is a choice, job creation is a choice. Whether we give our children a future of more or a future of less – this too, is a choice.” – Martin O’Malley

Children deserve the chance to be children. Let’s help give them a brighter beginning.

#BrightBeginningsProject #ComingSoon #EmpowerChange

Catriona Gray in another Pablo Cabahug

Catriona will obviously focus on underprivileged children and how to create a young life more fit to what their growing-up minds should be centered on.

Yes, the pieces are starting to fit. And Catriona Gray is a crucial part of it.:-)

A Badjao Girl named Rita Gabiola

Rita Gabiola is viral and trending. And beautifully at that!

courtesy of Viral and Trending

There really is no weird formula behind making someone viral or trending online, the same way that a person can have no clear-cuts (or short-cuts) as to how to make himself or herself popular overnight. It’s all about fate and encounters.

Take for example the now rising popularity of Badjao Girl Rita Gabiola. If not for Photographer Topher Quinto Burgos attending the Pahiyas Festival and chancing upon her walking the streets, then the meeting of the lens and the beautiful face of this tribal lass won’t happen. At least not yet if not for the incidental factors. But the chances are pretty high considering that she really has striking looks that could be molded into a more arresting photographic model in due time and patience. A few superficial fixings here and there, a nice touch of personality coaching and heart full of genuine love should do the trick.

Here are excerpts from the article posted by newsgra.ph:

Still fresh from swooning over Carrot Man and Kwek kwek girl, Filipino netizens found another person to gush over, this time a Badjao girl who fell under the lens of a photographer during the recent Pahiyas Festival.

Topher Quinto Burgos aka Tophergrapher uploaded a number of photos he took during the annual festival and it wasn’t long before the photos became viral. A popular community page shared the photos and it received more than 65 thousand likes and 20 thousand shares as of this writing.

Below are the photos of Badjao Girl as taken by Topher Quinto Burgos:

It will only take a matter of days from now before we get to see Rita getting transplanted from her Badjao tribe into the bright lights of Manila. All I wish for is that she gets help and promotion in the right hands and with TV networks and/or agencies with extremely good intentions.:-)

Marcia Nicole A. Bautista is a Miss Global Philippines 2016 candidate (Gown photo taken by Lito Caleon for Fabmanilaph)

When the Miss Global Philippines 2016 candidates made one of their sponsor visits at Belmeré Skin Care Centre in Pasig, I got the chance to engage this pretty lass from Cabagan, Isabela in a small round-robin talk with the others. She immediately took my fancy after stating that she is a Management Accountant who graduated from our common alma mater – University of Santo Tomas. In jest, I asked if she already got bored with doing all those office paper works and financial documents and decided to throw caution to the wind so as to give way to her long-time interest in joining pageants. Her girlish smile indicated an affirmative reply, seconded by a statement that she really wants to give herself this break. After all, she has been a family breadwinner for so long that getting the chance to give in to the dream is such a welcome change.

Marcia Nicole is a happy simple spirit who has not lost her rural upbringing. And by that, what I am actually saying is that she is not a boring personality after all. Her job may tend to be branded as relatively monotonous, but the overall spark will always be seen as fun-loving with a healthy dash of wholesome.

A photo with Marcia Nicole during the candidates’ visit to Belmeré Skin Care Centre

Will Marcia Nicole Bautista achieve what she originally aimed for in joining Miss Global Philippines 2016? I hope so. She has such a positive vibe and energy that can easily spread to the organization running the same.:-)

Slimmers World Miss Bikini Philippines 2016 Christine Opiaza (Photo credit: Joy Arguil)

When the candidates of Slimmers World Miss Bikini Philippines 2016 were presented to the Press five days before the finals last May 20, it was very clear to your blogger that #24 was going to win the competition. Perhaps with a good fight from a few of the other contenders, but Christine Opiaza of Zambales will still prevail in the end. And she did.

Christine oozes with sexiness all over (Photo credit: Joy Arguil)

Christine has the face, the body, the height and the personality in one package. She is clearly unmissable. And when she actually copped Best in Creative Posing and Best Personality during the Coronation Night at the Newport Performing Arts Thester of Resorts World Manila, there were no surprise calls from anyone. She had it in the bag since the launch.

And she brims with personality. Proof is the award she got for having loads of it. (Photo credit: Joy Arguil)

So for one full year, Christine will serve her contract. And after that, I’m pretty sure she will go farther in pageantry. With the experience of this win, it won’t be a long wait till we get to see her in another contest come 2017.😉
