The Earth warriors from all over the globe will be arriving in Manila soon!

Miss Earth 2013 Alyz Henrich (middle) during the 'Grow A Million Trees' project at Skyranch in Tagaytay City.

In just a matter of weeks, the Philippines will start welcoming the confirmed delegates of Miss Earth 2014. And the local and international pageant world will be abuzz with all the environmental and medal-winning activities that the organizers have lined up for this year’s batch of earth warriors.

Green Sun Hotel: Official Residence of Miss Earth 2014 delegates

Reigning Miss Earth Alyz Henrich is already in the country to help promote the pageant, as well as to film new videos that will serve as backdrops to the November 29 finals to be held at the UP Theater in Diliman, QC. While the venue will certainly not excite fans and followers anymore, it still remains as the better choice compared to the clubhouse area of Versailles Palace in Alabang. As such, expect a more TV- and audience-friendly set-up this time around.

By the way, this year’s Official Residence is the newly-built Green Sun Hotel in Makati City.

Do check out the pre-arrival photos of the 2014 candidates HERE.

Back in the loving arms of UP Theater, Miss Earth 2014 will be.

And just to reminisce a bit, watch the Eco-Beauty video of the reigning Miss Earth during last year’s competition.

A breathtaking view of Magdeburg, Germany from the tower of Johanniskirche

From the Miss Intercontinental website:

“Magdeburg (East Germany) is about to welcome and to host for the second time the official Beauty Queens from all continents!

This year, the Miss Intercontinental Pageant will be aired once more from the Maritim Hall at the Maritim Hotel in the “Conference City Magdeburg”. The Conference Office of the Magdeburg Marketing GmbH is dedicated to promote the capital city of Saxony-Anhalt as a high quality meeting and conference venue.

With 1200 years of rich and colourful history, Magdeburg is one of the oldest cities in the former East Germany. There are only few cities in Central Europe which compare to Magdeburg in terms of its eventful historical past. Magdeburg was once an imperial palatinate, a member of the Hanseatic League and a Prussian Fortress which has been marked by unimaginable war and destruction. However, Magdeburg allowed the currents of time to take it into a new future full of possibilities; the city was reconstructed and a particular importance was attached to the maintenance, care and preservation of cultural goods. In Magdeburg, you can also follow the footsteps of many famous personalities such as Germany’s air pioneer Hans Grade and his first attempts to fly, or Martin Luther who revolutionized the world, to name only a few.

“With no doubts we will have another great time, as especially our partner, the Maritim Hotel Magdeburg with its fantastic facilities will make our stay memorable” says a speaker of the production office today.

It will be the second time that an international finale of this caliber will take place in the state Saxony Anhalt. We are all looking forward to a marvelous show on December 4th.”

The ladies will be billeted at Holiday Inn-Berlin City West from November 23-December 5, 2014

Miss Intercontinental 2014 returns to Magdeburg in East Germany. After the cancellation of the original plan to hold the finals in Jordan and Egypt due to safety and security reasons, all of this year’s candidates (including Bb. Pilipinas Intercontinental 2014 Kris Tiffany Janson are visibly more excited about going to one of the oldest and most historic cities in Germany. Starting November 23, they will be arriving in Berlin where the Official Hotel (Holiday Inn-Berlin City West) is located.

The coronation night will be held at the Maritim Hall of Maritim Hotel Magdeburg (photo below). The venue might not look grand enough for some, but I’m sure the organizers will transform the place into a more appropriate setting for the finals.

Here’s looking forward to Miss Intercontinental 2014! :-D

Their respective sashes reveal that Rosevemme and Therese will also be fielded internationally.

Rosevemme and Therese: runners-up who will compete abroad

I remember Miss Grand Philippines franchise owner John dela Vega mentioning on his Facebook page that he was able to close a deal for two additional international pageants to be added up to his top title on offer. And when MGP2014 1st Runner-up Rosevemme Fajardo and 2nd Runner-up Therese Gomez showed up to judge the Mr. & Ms. Thomasian Doctors Pageant 2014 yesterday, they were already wearing sashes that gave away their respective assignments.

image Rosevemme’s sash is Miss Universal Peace and Humanity Philippines 2014. And that means she will be representing the country in the Miss Universal Peace and Humanity 2014* finals scheduled to happen in Cyprus on December 10. Therese, on the other hand, was wearing Miss United Continent-Philippines. I would assume that her time will come in 2015 still because this year’s Miss United Continent** finals already took place in Guayaquil last month with Dominican Republic’s Geisha Montes de Oca winning.

Good luck in your preparations, Vemme and Terizz! :-)

*- this is the same contest initially rumored to have Angelee delos Reyes as the Philippine bet.
**- It used to be called Miss United Continents during the inaugural edition won by Carolina Aguirre.

What do you think of Anjelica Balatbat?

Canada Philippine Fashion Week's Model of the Year Anjelica Balatbat

image There’s a new girl in town we just might get to see more of in 2015. Actually, she is on a visit from Toronto where she was raised.

Last Sunday night, Jonas Gaffud introduced me to this very tall (around 5’11”) young lady. She was seated at first, then stood up to acknowledge my presence. My, oh my, she is statuesque indeed. Her name is Anjelica Balatbat. But you can call her Anjie for short.

Anjie was named Model of the Year during the Canada Philippine Fashion Week held earlier in the year. And I’m not surprised. She has a lovely posture and a swan neck that cradles her beautiful facial features. Her descent is obviously 100% Filipino.

Now, if residency won’t be a major hurdle, then I can easily see her making the beeline for Bb. Pilipinas 2015. Otherwise, Miss World Philippines 2015 would be a good alternative.

Where do you think Anjie will make a better fit? ;-)

During the Presentation of Miss Thailand International 2014, Polly left everyone in the audience in awe. Just look at the young boy staring at her heels on the right pic.

When controversially-appointed Miss Thailand International 2014 Punika “Polly” Kulsoontornroot departs for Tokyo next week to take part in Miss International 2014, she will be taking with her the warm wishes of her Thai countrymen to hopefully nail their first Mikimoto crown ever. During the recent presentation of the former Miss Water 2013, she amazed everyone with her beauty and poise.

But just the same, Polly still caught the thumbs down from many pageant fans for abandoning her 2nd Runner-up Elemental title during Miss Earth 2013 which led to an automatic dethronement from Carousel Productions. She has already issued a personal note online asking for understanding about her decision. Knowing that many Filipino fans are part of the dismayed followers, she also specified her continuous love for the Philippines and its people.

So are we good with that for now?

Anyways, I wish you a safe travel to the Land of the Rising Sun, Polly! ;-)

Will Bianca's wish of following Bea Rose in this group come true?

image

Practicing her eyebrows, Bianca is.

In less than a week from now, Bb. Pilipinas International 2014 Mary Anne Bianca Guidotti will be arriving in Tokyo fully pumped-up to go for her pageant mission with a sincere smile, a heart of gold, a warm disposition and a wealth of conversational Nihongo in memory that should bring her closer to the Japanese people.

By the time she opens her mouth and tests her ability to speak to the locals, Bianca will unleash her “Konnichiwa, Arigato Gozaimasu and Kombanwa” with a dash of charm only a woman of true loving and caring substance can offer.

A confidence check on our girl will show that she has the right balance of niceties, conformity and aggression to show to everyone that she means serious business in wresting a back-to-back win for the Philippines in Miss International 2014. I can still remember our chat where she jokingly but in an oddly serious tone said that she has already collected all her annual allocated wishes for that one special gift – a pearl-encrusted Mikimoto crown that she intends to give back in gratitude to all the Filipinos who supported and cheered her on every step of the way.

image I love you, Marianne. You are the younger beauty queen sister I never had, the tall Bb. Pilipinas niece I might never get the chance of raising and guiding to pageantry and the pure unadulterated celebrity-friend I discovered serendipitously.

Jamie and your blogger during Miss Panglao 2014

Just like in the previous post about Bianca Guidotti, Miss Philippines Earth 2014 Jamie Herrell is also getting ready for her international pageant. And soon, I must add.

Before the month ends, she will come face-to-face with the ladies who stand in her way of claiming a 2nd Miss Earth crown for the country. And the end objective won’t be easy, especially if you factor in her being the host delegate who needs to cross a tightrope of being hospitable country guide to the uninitiated and fierce competitor to the strong delegates.

Jamie is proud of her Filipino and American roots. She will put forward the best of both worlds in Miss Earth 2014.

Jamie is proud of her Filipino and American roots. She will put forward the best of both worlds in Miss Earth 2014.

But Jamie is ready. In fact, she has never been more ready than now. Having met and chatted with her during our time in Bohol judging Miss Panglao 2014, I have come to realize the strength and determination within her. She is one tough cookie. A fighter who will not back down even if the odds are stacked up against her favor.

And if Miss Earth 2014 is like a Survivor challenge to anyone who can balance on top of a totem pole the longest, then count her in as the last woman standing.

Kris and your blogger in Panglao, Bohol last August

Let’s continue with Bb. Pilipinas Intercontinental 2014 Kris Tiffany Janson, our third major beauty competitor scheduled to leave for Miss Intercontinental 2014 in Magdeburg, Germany a little over a month from now.

And since Christmas is slowly sneaking in our midst, allow me to play Kris Kringle with Ms. Janson. I will come up with five (5) themes and write down the related gift I would like to wish for her. Game?

image

Kris during her Cary Santiago fittings

1) Something long – preferably an abundant bouquet of long-stemmed roses I will give on the day of her departure for Europe.

2) Something black and red – preferably a gown or traditional attire (or both) in the hue of black and red and all custom-made by Cary Santiago. Almost fulfilled, I reckon.

3) Something soft – preferably a goose-down pillow which she can bring on her long-haul trip to lay her head on as well as use on her hotel bed so that she can always have a good night sleep in Berlin and Magdeburg.

4) Something sweet – preferably a box of export-quality dried mangoes from Cebu she can distribute among her fellow foreign candidates.

And finally…

5) Something round – preferably the lucky coin that has brought me a nice string of good fortune. I will lend it to her for the entire 12-day stay of competition. Hopefully, it will keep her in good stead while aiming to win the Miss Intercontinental 2014 crown – the round head adornment that will take the place of the small coin she will give back to me upon her return to the country by the second week of December.

I wish you all the positivity and blessings, Kris.

No need to wrap the biggest Christmas gift I am wishing for you. Wear it proudly. Fingers-crossed! :-D

Bb. Pilipinas Supranational 2014 Yvethe Marie Santiago is extraordinarily wonderful!

Yvethe and Yvethe

We’re going four-for-four with Bb. Pilipinas Supranational 2014 Yvethe Marie Santiago who will be going to Krynica-Zdrój, Poland at right about the same time that Bb. Pilipinas Intercontinental 2014 Kris Tiffany Janson will be departing for Magdeburg, Germany.

In the movie classic “Mary Poppins” lead Oscar-winning actress Julie Andrews sang a song that contained the deliciously long neologism of a word “supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” which refers to something extraordinarily good or wonderful or if you will, “something to say when you don’t know what to say.

Yvethe is basically supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, or for pageant purposes, ‘Supracalifragilisticexpialidocious’. She is an exclamation of a beauty, someone who can either delight or surprise us come competition time for Miss Supranational 2014.

image

Yvethe and your blogger

And this Albayana knows the steep climb to the crown. She is vying for a title where a fellow Bb. Pilipinas – Mutya Datul – is the reigning winner. And she has been steadily preparing herself for the challenge. She is aware that all eyes will be on her like a marked target that has been tattooed on her back.

But worry not. She’s up to the fight. And if it means muscling her way through the sea of beauties standing in her way, so be it. Supra or no Supra, she will still be -califragilisticexpialidocious! :-D

It was by pure coincidence that Bb. Pilipinas 1987 had two Official Candidates who answered to nicknames that are almost similarly spelled except for the switch of the two vowels – sometimes to the slight confusion of people around them.

The same ladies eventually won. Maria Lourdes “Luli” Enriquez was crowned Bb. Pilipinas International 1987, while Maria Luisa “Lilu” Jimenez won Miss Maja Pilipinas 1987.

Lilu (leftmost) with her three kids and husband Tim in a Christmas family pic

Lilu (leftmost) with her three kids and husband Tim in a Christmas family pic

Between the two, Lilu Jimenez performed better in her pageant assignment. She went to Mérida, Mexico for Miss Maja International 1987 and made Top 10. And not one to be tied down by beauty queen duties after her BPCI contract expired, she went on with life, migrated to the U.S. where she met and married her husband Tim Andrews. She is now the mother of three beautiful kids and works as an Education Coordinator at Frenesius Medical Care.

lourdes_enriquez871 As for Luli Enriquez, there is very little to be searched about her current whereabouts online. I tried and tried but to no avail, sadly. I do hope she is living a beautiful life right now and happily settled down with her husband and children.

Okay, dear readers, I have decided to reserve my Senti Sunday Specials for all former Filipina beauty queens*. If you happen to be in the know about the present state of one and want her to be featured here, I’d gladly oblige. You may email norman.blogsite@gmail.com for a recent photo or two plus bits of info about her latest. :-)

* – limited at the moment to those who won titles in Bb. Pilipinas, Mutya ng Pilipinas, Miss R.P. and lesser-known competitions where the winner may be of special interest to readers (e.g. Dina Bonnevie in Miss Magnolia, Joey Albert in Dream Girl Filipina and Charo Santos in Baron Travel Girl)

Val during her visit to an evacuation center in Albay

When Miss World Philippines 2014 Valerie Weigmann guested on GMA-7’s Startalk last Saturday afternoon, she took the opportunity to thank all her supporters, aside from answering the questions of hosts Joey de Leon and Heart Evangelista. You can definitely see how her previous stint in the noontime variety show Eat Bulaga has helped in her public speaking, especially in the vernacular.

When asked by host Joey de Leon if she is ready to win the country’s 2nd Miss World crown, Val confidently answered.

“Reading-ready na…I will put myself into this. I want to be best that I can be. And I want to show the world that we are deserving it…”

Fresh, clean and all-around beautiful. Do you like MJ this way? (Make-up by Gio Lazaro Flores)

image

MJ's look for the PBA Opening yesterday (Photo credit: Oli Sara)

Here is the latest look of Miss Universe Philippines 2014 Mary Jean “MJ” Lastimosa courtesy of KF’s High Definition Make-up Specialist Gio Lazaro Flores. This was how she presented herself during the PBA (Philippine Basketball Association) yesterday where was one of the muses of the competing teams.

Do you like what you see? I do. It gives her face a fresher and cleaner visage that typefies the kind of Miss Universe beauty I’d like to see in Doral Miami next year.

So the next question that begs to be answered is if she has already mastered the art of application on her own. Backstage at the Miss Universe, they will be very strict when it comes to having an outsider doing her face. After all, the pageant has make-up sponsors who can build up or break a contestant’s look in a matter of one hour.

I certainly hope for an affirmative answer on that. ;-)

Last night, Aces & Queens threw a simple despedida dinner for Bb. Pilipinas International 2014 Mary Anne Bianca Guidotti, four (4) days before her Official Send-Off by BPCI at Araneta’s Balay.

By Saturday, our Queen will be flying to Tokyo, Japan to start her journey for a back-to-back victory and a 6th Miss International crown – two objectives that may look impossible for some, but quite achievable for most.

These days are so busy for Bianca, but she still keeps the pressure at bay. After all, she wants to look at her most beautiful when she arrives in the Land of the Rising Sun. ;-)

Miss Universe 1986 Barbara Palacios Teyde, Miss Universe 1996 Alicia Machado and Miss Universe 2013 Gabriela Isler gamely posed for pictures as a trio, and even took groupie shots of themselves for fun. Still looking gorgeous as ever, Barbara and Alicia displayed their beautiful faces for everyone to see, while Gabriela represents the modern evolution of the title that has been the most coveted by every national winner around the globe.

I wonder where Maritza, Irene, Dayana and Stefania are? This would have been a momentous photo op for all of them. :-)

No official word yet, but could this be the new Miss Universe crown designed by DIC?

The Miss Brazil Voy Forum uploaded an image of the alleged new Miss Universe crown that will have its global debut on the head of whoever will win Miss Universe 2014.

While there is still no confirmation from either Miss Universe Organization or DIC (Diamonds International Corporation) the image above looks legit to me. But if it turns out to be a hoax, then it’s back to square one in re-imagining what it would look like. :-)

Eva and Gil will celebrate their 3rd year Anniversary next month

Nothing beats love in making life even sweeter. It is the pure source of inspiration that makes a person look even more beautiful than she already is.

And in the case of Mutya ng Pilipinas Asia-Pacific International 2014 Eva Patalinjug, love will take greater heights next month when she celebrates the 3rd Year Anniversary of her relationship with Mr. International Philippines 2013 (and Mister International 2013 4th Runner-up) Gil Wagas, Jr. Truth be told, it is not very often that two pageant winners end up together, and strongly at that. Perhaps, it helps that there is a good foundation in their bond. And the two lovebirds from Cebu are very open about their affection for each other.

I love it that you’re constantly in love, Eva! Take good care of your special ‘Badong’ the way he loves you back even more. :-)

image Miss Philippines Australia 2014 Glyssa Perez is enjoying every minute of her reign. And with the constant support and cheers of the Filipino Community in Sydney behind her, there simply is no dull moment whenever she graces an event or makes an appearance. This is the celebrity life of a pageant winner, after all.

And just like her predecessor Melanie Balagtas (who went on to participate in Miss Philippines Earth 2014), will Glyssa follow suit and try her luck in one of our national pageants in 2015? I don’t see any reason why not. She’s got the looks and aura to compete in the bigger league.

But for now, she’s still busy fulfilling the demands of her beauty title. 2015 can wait. But not for long. ;-)

Will we get to see Glyssa in Philippine pageants come 2015?

Lorraine Kendrickson may have fallen short of the Miss World Philippines 2014 crown during the finals, but she remains proud and satisfied of having made it as far as the closest runner-up of Valerie Weigmann. In fact, she always uses the hashtag #1stPrincess in her recent status updates, and has happily moved on.

This could only mean more doors opening for the beautiful Dumaguete native in other national beauty pageants.

So do I smell a possible joining in either Bb. Pilipinas or Miss Philippines Earth next year? I don’t see why not. She still has a bright future ahead in the world of pageantry. Right, dear readers? :-)

Miss World Philippines 2014 Valerie Weigmann during her victory celebration at Wafu

image

Valerie and your blogger

Going to the Greenhills area from Paranaque on a busy Tuesday night can be quite the trying commute. Just thinking of the number of bottlenecks along the way is more than enough to wear me down. But then again, there’s no other way to go about it except face the traffic head-on. The invitation to attend the victory celebration of Aces & Queens for Miss World Philippines 2014 Valerie Weigmann is unmissable, to say the least.

image

Smiling faces everywhere

image

Arriving at Wafu, I was greeted by familiar faces of friends and dear acquaintances. Aside from Jonas Gaffud and the people behind the pageant training group, a list of camp-affiliated beautiful ladies – past, present and future titleholders – made the affair shine even more. In attendance were: Shamcey Supsup-Lee, Mary Anne Bianca Guidotti, Yvethe Santiago, Mary Ann Ross Misa, Christine Balaguer, Janelle Lazo Tee, Justine Felizarta, Monique Trinidad and Carla Lizardo.

The sit down dinner filled everyone’s tummy. Lively talks and pleasantries filled the air. Smiles and laughters came in succession.

image

Val upon her arrival at Wafu

Of course, the star of the night made her grand entrance soon enough. And London-bound Val is on a natural high with all the love and support being constantly showered upon her. Never-ending camera clicks and photo ops followed.

image

Beautiful ladies (well, almost) all plus Valerie

Everyone knows that the mission has just started for our Miss World 2014 rep. And if she is fortunate enough to score a big win in London – which equates to an even more fulfilling back-to-back victory with Miss World 2013 Megan Young – then I can only imagine how glorious the jubilation will be. :-D

glennifer21 While we’re busy checking on the progress of Bianca Guidotti, Jamie Herrell, Kris Tiffany Janson, Yvethe Santiago, Valerie Weigmann and MJ Lastimosa, let’s not forget that there’s one more girl who’s going for a far more unenviable pageant assignment abroad. Mutya ng Pilipinas Tourism International 2014 Glennifer Perido is competing in Miss Tourism International 2014 in Kuala Lumpur come December 31. Apart from looking at an almost impossible back-to-back-to-back win in the competition, she will need to console herself with the possible accomplishment in place of spending Christmas and New Year away from home.

But Glennifer knows fully well what she signed up for, and she is unfazed by the challenge. She is inspired by hashtags #ForThePhilippines and #backtobacktobackwin and won’t stop at anything to insure that her preparations are on the right track.

Just keep the focus, girl. We’re right here to support your bid. ;-)
