Stephanie Tiro-Sitoy: The Beauty Queen Mrs. is a Doctor

Mrs. Globe Philippines 2014 Dr. Stephanie Tiro-Sitoy

image Stephanie Tiro-Sitoy is living proof that there’s life beyond hospital work and medical missions. As Mrs. Philippines Globe 2014, she has placed herself in the pageant route which practicing professionals in her field do not usually end up taking.

A Pediatrician by specialization, Dr. Stephanie will have to set aside her stethoscope and syringes in favor of wearing a crown and walking in five-inch platform heels. By the latter part of November, she will be donning the Philippine sash in Shenzhen, China where Mrs. Globe 2014 will take place.

image

Dr. Stephanie during one of the medical missions of the Cebu Neuroscience Society.

And our rep couldn’t be more excited. I had the pleasure of meeting her last night during the victory bash of MWP2014 Valerie Weigmann. She has this relaxed and unassuming presence that shows off the true warmth of character she possesses – motherly at one point, youthful the next and altogether engaging as a people person who just could be everyone’s big sister.

The Doctor has been busily preparing herself for the competition in China. And here’s hoping that she will do the country proud during the international finals. :-)

In Thailand, there’s no question that they take their National Costumes very seriously – especially for Miss Universe purpose.

In a recent design competition to select what traditional attire Miss Universe Thailand 2014 Pimbongkod ‘Ellie’ Chankaew will wear in Doral Miami, the winner – Akarapawin Sophon – created a minimalist but tasteful ensemble called “Shadow of Siam”. And I like it that the final concept will be most appropriate for her tall proportions (safely over 6′ tall).

While I don’t visualize the end results to be a show-stopper, it still reckon that it will remain as a strong favorite for Best National Costume.

What do you think, dear readers? :-)

biancabea21 If you watched the morning show “Umagang Kay Ganda” on ABS-CBN earlier in the day, you will have seen the final TV guesting of Miss International 2013 and Bb. Pilipinas International 2014 Mary Anne Bianca Guidotti before they leave for Tokyo, Japan this coming weekend.

The two beautiful ladies were actually in the segment where they exhibited some relevant beauty queen gym exercises that are helpful in maintaining their shapely bodies.

In the following days, they will be busy as Queen Bees. Bea Rose will start packing her luggages, while Bianca – whose competition wardrobe has already been prepared and packed by the BPCI team – will get ready for her (Strictly by Invitation) Official Send-Off at Araneta Center tomorrow afternoon.

P.S. Let’s have some good clean fun in the meantime. Try putting a caption on the big photo of Bea Rose and Bianca above. ;-)

Check out Val on the Miss World website!

If you visit the Miss World website’s 2014 candidates section, the photo and profile of Miss World Philippines 2014 Valerie Weigmann have already been uploaded. Actually, the photo above is one of my favorites when she had her photoshoot weeks before the final screening for the national competition.

Read below her Q&A on simple questions thrown in by the Miss World organizers. I reckon that her responses are simple and practical – no conscious effort to be too earthshaking or dramatic, unless you would rather classify climate change as concern somewhere else. ;-)

Throwback Thursday: Turning Miss Universe placements to Miss International wins

Coming from Miss Universe placements back in 1984 and 1987, Ilma Julieta Urrutia and Laurie Simpson went on to win Miss International in the same years, respectively.

Coming from Miss Universe placements back in 1984 and 1987, Ilma Julieta Urrutia and Laurie Simpson went on to win Miss International in the same years, respectively.

It no longer comes as a complete surprise that some Miss Universe placers went on to achieve greater victories in other beauty pageants.

Ilma julieta (2nd from right) during the MU1984 Top 10 Swimsuit Competition

Ilma julieta (2nd from right) during the MU1984 Top 10 Swimsuit Competition

Consider Ilma Julieta Urrutia Chang of Guatemala first. She is the only Big 4 pageant winner from the Central American country to date. After landing in Miami Beach for Miss Universe 1984, she was easily noticed and became one of the running favorites going into the finals. True enough, she found herself being called to join the Top 10. And while her climb to the Top 5 never materialized, she was still considered a very competitive beauty queen such that country organizers decided to field her once more. And at the Kanagawa Prefectural Civic Hall in Yokohama, Japan, she outlasted the competition and defeated early picks from Venezuela and Sweden (who became her runners-up) to become Miss International 1984.

Laurie Tamara Simpson during MU1987 in Singapore

Laurie Tamara Simpson during MU1987 in Singapore

There is also Laurie Tamara Simpson of Puerto Rico. Her first stop was Singapore for Miss Universe 1987. In the Lion City, she made heads turn and was constantly in the short-list of many pageant followers. And during the Coronation Night, she was initially part of the Top 10. From there, she performed well enough to snatch the fifth and final Top 5 spot (from 6th placer Geraldine Asis of the Philippines). Eventual winner Cecilia Bolocco of Chile was a winner right from the start, though, and she got the 4th Runner-Up honor for her efforts.

But when it was time to conquer Tokyo, this Puerto Rican became a strong front-runner. At Nihon Seinen-Kan, she was elected Miss International 1987, big notches better than her MU achievement.

There are still other ladies who went the same route as Ilma and Laurie in the major beauty contests. But since Miss International 2014 will be starting soon, I opted to focus on them as the Throwback Thursday feature of the week. ;-)

Flora Coquerel: A thorn in the Miss World path of the Philippines?

Miss France 2014 Flora Coquerel is one of the pre-arrival favorites for Miss World 2014 in London, UK.

floracoquerel21 This early, Miss France 2014 Flora Coquerel is getting the attention of many pageant fans as a strong contender for Miss World 2014 in London. And I’m not surprised. She has a charming quality that can be easy for people to fall for.

floracoquerel31 One of the few contestants who will have the shortest air travel time to the host city come late November, Flora will arrive in the English capital fresh and free from jet lag. And she will also have the advantage of getting a good number of French supporters all throughout the competition. But then again, there is no way that the Filipinos who are out to back up Valerie Weigmann will be outnumbered, right?

Let’s see if this lady will approximate, if not exceed, the performance of Marine Lorphelin in Bali last year. ;-)

It was like a 3-in-1 Press Launch that I attended earlier inside L’Opera Italian Restaurant at the Fort Strip. Prior to the serving of a well-prepared three-course Italian meal, the Philippine representatives to Mr. & Miss Diversity Culture International were formally introduced to all media professionals invited.

Beautiful Soraya

Alvin Arranguez from Cebu and Renee Soraya Hassani from Q.C. will banner the country in the fashion/culture competition that will have its finals night on December 3 at the Newport Performing Arts Theater of Resorts World Manila. They confidently answered the questions thrown at them and made sure that they did their homework knowing what the international/cultural gathering is all about.
image

Q&A time with Soraya, Alvin and Patricia

As of now, contestants from around fifty (50) countries have already confirmed their delegates to the event. By the end of the month, they should know the final number of heads participating.

Patricia Danielle Cabawatan for Miss Teen International 2014

And then there is the send-off of our first-ever bet to Miss Teen International. The 2014 edition will be held in San Jose, Costa Rica from November 3-12. A pretty lass from Lucban – Patricia Danielle Cabawatan – previously a Miss Tourism World Philippines 2014 semifinalist, will be wearing the country’s sash in the beauty contest for teens from all over the world. She is visibly excited about her upcoming trip to Central America and promises to do her best in the contest.

wpid-img_6512165781503.jpeg
Lastly, the formal announcement of Mister United Continent 2014 got underway. This is going to be the first homegrown international male pageant in the country which will be hosted come May next year. Our delegate to the same has not been selected yet, but I will keep you posted as soon as the casting call has been completed.

All in all, it was a successful press launch. Kudos to Blue Circle Events & Management for a well-attended activity. :-)

Three generations of beauties (left to right): Bianca (middle) with her mother Gela (left) and grandmother

It was a send-off like no other. I have seen quite a number, but never this emotional, true and heartfelt. And no one could be more apt to receive such a tribute than Bb. Pilipinas International 2014 Bianca Guidotti who has certainly become the lady all of her fellow Bb. Pilipinas 2014 Queens have learned to love and treat like a big sister.

image

Bianca shedding tears of joy everytime a fellow Bb. Pilipinas 2014 Queen would speak to her.

image

Yvethe and Laura were the most tearful in honoring Bianca.

Even before Bianca stepped out on stage, she was already in a constant huddle with the other ladies. She was getting endless words of encouragement from every single one. And among them, it was expected that Bb. Pilipinas Supranational 2014 Yvethe Santiago and 1st Runner-Up Laura Lehmann to be the most tearful because they have shared a lot of ups and downs in pageant training even before they were announced as winners during the finals.

image

Bianca's fellow Bb. Pilipinas 2014 Queens taking turns in wishing her well.

image

Bianca with her "Titas"

The presence of Bianca’s family members and friends, especially the mother and grandmother, made her tears flow even more. And there was simply no reason to hold back the emotions for them. If you could only see her exactly one year ago – complete with frizzy hair and a laid-back carefree aura – the transformation has been nothing short of amazing.

image

Bianca's mother (Gela) gave a short speech that made the honoree more emotional.

By the time Q&A with the media came, she was already at her most relaxed. She answered all the questions with a good mix of heart and spunk. When asked about who she considers as her toughest competition in Tokyo, she could only utter “…a lot!”. She added that she can’t do anything about their being breathtakingly beautiful. But what she can work on is herself and how to continuously level up every step of the way.
image

Bianca in pageant bloom

With a lot of confidence, Bianca admitted that going for the back-to-back win was “…never a daunting task, it was something doable“. And with that level of determination burning within, our Queen can only look forward to an 18-day journey in Tokyo filled with positivity. Echoing the advice given by MJ Lastimosa, “when the time comes that the winners are already being announced, never pray in silence and say “Lord, kahit runner-up lang”…always say that “I will be the winner!”

From your ninang-blogger (that would be me) and all of us here supporting you, enjoy the journey but take the competition seriously when it matters most. In between demanding activities and appearances, show the real beauty in you and for sure, your undeniable essence and presence will come shining through! :-D

When Bb. Pilipinas International 2014 Mary Anne Bianca Guidotti finally boards her Philippine Airlines Flight 428 to Tokyo (ETD: 6:45AM, ETA: 12:10PM) this coming Saturday, she will be bringing with her a wealth of wisdom and positive ideas that she hopes will help bring her closer to creating a strong impact among the candidates and organizers alike.

IMG_0112.JPG

Bianca is the type of person who goes out of her way to make people feel at ease. And whoever her eventual roommate will be should get immediate first-hand experience of the type of friendship she offers – sincere and void of duplicity. From there, she hopes to spread her engaging personality to everyone and become an individual who is all-around nice and unpretentious.

IMG_0113.JPG

Not that she would turn down a Miss Friendship award should the other delegates find her most deserving. But at this point, the stakes are high and going head-on for the top crown is foremost in her mind. If she can be voted most amicable and still be elected Miss International 2014, then wouldn’t that be just a fab combo? ;-)

image Okay, here’s another girl who we might just see entering showbiz by default or being groomed for modeling. I’m not ticking the box under pageants just yet. But who knows how time can change the mind of someone, especially if she has already signed up with Mercator Models.

Kaila Estrada is the beautiful daughter of showbiz personalities John Estrada and Janice de Belen. She definitely got the looks and a good enough measure of her father’s height. And I bet that we shall see more of her soon. Be it on the small screen, the runway or possibly an indie flick or two.

Let’s stretch things a little bit now. Do you think she has the good physical foundation to try out for beauty contests as well? I don’t see any reason why not. With Jonas Gaffud behind her, the option will always be on the planning board. Career-wise, that is. ;-)

John dela Vega's franchise certificate for Miss United Continents 2015

It was mere formality that John dela Vega uploaded a copy of his franchise certificate for Miss United Continents 2015 in Guayaquil, Ecuador. Having already placed the sash of Miss United Continents Philippines on Miss Grand Philippines 2014 2nd Runner-up Therese Gomez, he already unraveled the international beauty contest he has closed a deal with.

While I cannot give 100% confirmation that Therese will already be our representative to the 3rd edition of the South America-based pageant, it’s looking clear by the day that she might really be the one to get the job. This should hold true if the schedule of Miss United Continents next year will be dated before the conduct of Miss Grand Philippines 2015.

Be that as it may, we can already expect JDV’s sophomore efforts for MGP to yield three (3) titleholders and possibly two runners-up. ;-)

Siran Samuel - Miss Earth South Sudan 2014

Siran Samuel – Miss Earth South Sudan 2014

I have received word that Siran Samuel, South Sudan’s representative to Miss Earth 2014, might no longer be coming to Manila due to the reported ebola outbreak in her country. I was also sounded off that the supposed entry from Sierra Leone won’t be competing due to the same reason as well. As far as Nigeria, Tanzania, Kenya, Ivory Coast, Cameroon and South Africa are concerned, no final word has been received from their end if their bets will push through with the Manila trip or not.

Truth be told, this is a sensitive concern. And it is not only centered on Miss Earth, but all other international beauty competitions taking place between now and early next year.

It personally saddens me because these ladies only want to banner their respective motherlands in the global pageant stage.

But then again, hands are tied in major health situations like this.

Laëtizia Penmellen: the Frenchwoman who could take Miss Earth 2014 by storm

Miss Earth France 2014 Laëtizia Penmellen

This woman's classic beauty takes my breath away.

image

Laëtizia is one of the most beautiful Miss France placers I have seen.

image Laëtizia Penmellen is like the quintessential Miss France (even if she only placed 2nd Runner-up in the nationals). She lives in Paris (originally from Provence), photographs with such amazing results akin to famous celebrities and moves with such cosmopolitan vibe. And she is all set to arrive in Manila for Miss Earth 2014.

I am always a sucker for classic beauties. Eternal. Timeless. If Laëtizia will prove to be just as good an earth warrior as she is a potential international beauty queen, then I don’t see why France will not snag an element this year. Perhaps, even the top crown itself.

Watch her video for Marie Laporte Collection 2015 below and tell me what you think.

biancasendoff4 At exactly 6:45 this morning, Bb. Pilipinas International 2014 Mary Anne Bianca Guidotti will be leaving for Tokyo, Japan aboard Philippine Airlines (PR428). With her are all our best wishes for a successful journey to the Miss International 2014 crown.

For the first time, the Japanese organizers have decided to finally jump into the online voting bandwagon. So calling all Filipinos here and around the world, we will be given our opportunity to further show our love and support for Bianca by taking part in the pageant’s popular (People’s) vote.

You simply need to access the contestants section of the official website. From there, click on Miss Philippines and you can cast a vote.

And this will all start on Monday, October 27.

Let’s go full blast in voting for Bianca!

But before doing that, watch one of her last TV interviews (earlier in the week) on 9TV’s Daybreak Conversation. This is where she promised to bring home the Miss International 2014 crown.

image Miss Philippines Earth 2014 Jamie Herrell is down to counting the days before she starts welcoming the candidates of Miss Earth 2014. And just earlier this week, she wrapped up with the shoot for the eco-beauty video that will form part of the medal-winning activities for the pre-pageant part of the same.

Final gown fittings should be completed within the weekend till early next week. And I am just as curious if Jamie will be wearing a Cary Santiago creation, just like Bb. Pilipinas Intercontinental 2014 Kris Tiffany Janson.

By and large, our Miss Earth 2014 bet will go all-out in competing for the crown. And her confidence remains unshaken, despite being the host delegate. She knows that it will be equal footing at the onset and it’s up to her to sustain the strong drive to excel. :-)

The Grand Finals of Miss Cebu 2015 won’t be until January 15 next year at the Pacific Grand Ballroom of Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino (with the Pre-Pageant set on January 10 at the Ayala Cebu Activity Center). And they all wearing Cary Santiago originals.

The dozen beautiful Cebuanas will vie for the crown currently being held by Miss Cebu 2014 Cherriemel Dianne Muego. And just like the practice in previous annual outings, there is no swimsuit portion. Focus on coronation night will be poise and elegance, intelligence and that undefinable X-factor.

Please don’t ask me her exact age, but it could only be one of two numbers – 75 or 73 – depending on which birth year you believe in. Regardless, she remains firm and unstinting in the efforts to forge ahead in her various humanitarian interests.

My wish is for her continued good health. From there, everything else will follow.

Whirlwind or not, the past few weeks have gone by so beautifully fast!

image November is coming around so fast that it will already be the 11th month by late next week. And before the middle part, Miss World Philippines 2014 should be given the formal send-off to Miss World 2014 in London before boarding the Philippine Airlines direct flight to the English capital.

Few days back, Valerie has already started filling in her own inputs to the Miss World Philippines Facebook Page which you should be liking by now. Interactions have also started, and it will do well to join in the online huddle so that there will be a beehive of giving and sharing of ideas and replies with our Queen.

Now, as far as the competition evening gown that she will be wearing, I am not at liberty to reveal neither the name of the designer nor the photo of the special creation. Let me just say that it is one spectacular piece that will definitely make Val an ethereal Goddess onstage. My jaw fell in awe, literally. If you want a hint, just follow my clue. There, I’ve said enough.

This is it! Valerie will be conquering London soon. Let us keep the faith and stay by her side all throughout the journey. :-D

Time flies so fast. It feels like only yesterday when Megan Young was crowned Miss World 2013 and wrote the Facebook update above on her Miss World Philippines Page (which has now been taken over by Valerie Weigmann).

In less than two months from now, she will most likely be coming up with a new set of musings that will capture her thoughts about crowning the new winner and leaving behind a track record that would not be easy for anyone else to follow.

And I will be the first one to look forward to the day that she will post her homestretch thoughts. :-)
