Adorable-looking Klaus!

21 year-old Klaus Burkart from Germany is the new Mr. Gay World after he was named top of the heap during the finals in South Africa last night. He now replaces Stuart Hatton Jr of the UK who won the title in Rome, Italy last year. He also won Best Written Test among the candidates. The representatives of Hong Kong, Finland, Belgium and Iceland finished the Top 5 next to Klaus in that order.

Klaus started the #oneday campaign which aims to encourage wishing for the betterment of society today, especially the concerns of Gay communities around the world.

The additional winners of the special awards were Belgium for Social Media, Malta for People’s Choice, Spain for Photogenic, Mexico for National Costume, Colombia for Congeniality, Australia for Swimwear, Sweden for the Sports Challenge and Zambia for the Art Challenge.

Congratulations, Klaus! We really hope that you can make a big difference during your reign. :-)

imageimageMay is the month of Flowers. It is also the season for Flores de Mayo and an excellent opportunity for some of our beautiful titleholders and handsome consorts to parade in public in traditional attires that symbolize an essence of the annual tradition.

At the SM Mall of Asia over the weekend, one such activity took place where the likes of Bb. Pilipinas Tourism 2014 Parul Shah, Miss Asean 2014 1st Runner-Up Ferina Ann Juny de Paz, Reyna ng Aliwan 2015 1st Runner-Up Faith Garcia, Mr. Global Philippines Joseph Doruelo and Mr. RP 2015 3rd Runner-Up John Ver Sibangan took centerstage to proudly display the creations of some of our local designers like Edwin Uy, Raphael Louis Gonzales and Renee Salud, as well as be part of the international retail chain’s version of the much-loved activity.

Check out the images in this post. Don’t they just look grand? :-)

Another Boom Pinili shot of Chanel

It’s already the 4th of May, and Miss Philippines Earth 2015 will be crowned in less than a month from now. May 31 to be exact.

While there are several favorites to do well among the earth warriors this year, there is one girl who still remains on top of the field as the solid pick to take the competition all the way – Chanel Olive Thomas, originally from Australia, but proudly representing San Antonio, Nueva Ecija.

In this post, Chanel shows us her experienced side as a print model in photographs expertly shot by lensman Boom Pinili. Her aura is very international. And it is one edge that she has over the others, not to mention her excellent communication skills and sleek runway skills.

image

And yet, another Chanel Olive Thomas shot from Boom Pinili

Can Chanel hold on to the lead tight enough to secure the crown and become our next Miss Earth bet? I have a feeling she can. While a back to back victory in the bigger pageant is an entirely different story, the more important thing is to capture the national title.

And that is where this Fil-Aussie beauty is pinning her undivided attention for now. ;-)

Since homecoming trips are musts for all our Bb. Pilipinas 2015 Queens, Miss Universe Philippines 2015 Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach had hers last Saturday, May 2. After arrival at the Laguindingan Airport, she headed straight to City Hall and paid a courtesy call to Mayor Oscar Moreno (see photo below) where Cagayanon folk dancers added a more festive spirit to the occasion.

Afterwards, she went to the Activity Center of SM City Cagayan de Oro for the Meet-and-Greet where her fans and supporters gathered to formally welcome her arrival. She had a fun time talking to them and even answering questions thrown in by the more excited ones.

A motorcade followed all around Cagayan de Oro City.

Pia was filled with so much happiness all throughout her homecoming trip to Cagayan de Oro City.

I can only agree. She was in such a good mood that, right after the stinging loss of Manny Pacquiao to Floyd Mayweather in yesterday’s boxing match, she tweeted “Kalma lang guys. Ako bahala. Babawi tayo sa Miss Universe!” ;-)

Over the long Labor Day weekend, The Supermodel International 2015 held its grand finals at the Fontana Convention Center in Clark, Pampanga.

The Colombian “black-is-beautiful” representative, Alexandra Arboleda, was named winner after she outlasted thirty-one (31) other contenders for the title. She was crowned by her predecessor Stephanie Cruz of Puerto Rico. Joining her in the Top 5 (ranked in this order) are the entries of Mongolia, Cambodia, New Zealand and Belgium.

Lending some glitter to the proceedings was the presence of two (2) Mister International winners – our very own Neil Perez and Jose Anmer Paredes from 2013.

Congratulations for winning another title this year, Colombia! :-)

Bb. Pilipinas Supranational 2014 Yvethe Santiago walking the streets of Shinjuku in Tokyo

These days, Japan is fast taking over Hong Kong and Bangkok as the favorite Asian destination of Filipino travelers. Credit goes to the significantly relaxed granting of tourist visas of the Japanese Embassy.

And one of those who took advantage of visiting The Land of the Rising Sun during the Labor Day weekend was Bb. Pilipinas Supranational 2014 Yvethe Marie Santiago who tagged along her first-ever best friend (her sister Ivy, actually) and fully enjoyed themselves in Tokyo. In particular, our 2014 Queen was in her happiest mood when time came to visit Tokyo Disney Resort.

By now, Yvethe must have already returned from the trip and looking forward to her next post-Bb. Pilipinas projects.

At least, Tokyo is now one item off her bucket list. ;-)

While Bb. Pilipinas International 2015 Janicel Lubina draws a good number of oohs and aahs whenever new photos surface online, she also gets her share of less-than-pleasant comments from those who are still unconvinced by her beauty and all. Be that as it may, one things remains – she is a photographer’s delight. The girl knows how to do an assortment of poses for the camera and can actually give deliver delightful shots that will show how she has started to master the art of projecting herself click after click. She may appear catalogue-ish in some of them. But all in all, she is capable of giving her fans and supporters the kind of look and aura they expect from a beauty queen. ;-)

mpeswimsuits21 At the plush Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort & Spa, the much-anticipated swimsuit competition of Miss Philippines Earth 2015 was held last weekend with much funfare. All the candidates were in their fittest selves as they stepped up to the plate in hopes of getting one of medals at stake in the sub-event that is considered by many as a preview of who will make it to the top on finals night.

As expected by many, Miss San Antonio, Nueva Ecija Chanel Olive Thomas scored the highest among the judges and got Gold. She was followed by Mandaue City’s Mhon Theress Menaling who settled for the Silver, with Miss City of Manila’s Angelia Ong salvaging the Bronze to complete the trio of winners that night.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see all three ladies taking three of the Top 5 spots on May 31, i.e., if none among them will falter in the pre-final Q&A and sustain the drive to secure an elemental placement. ;-)

During my brief stay in Bacolod and La Carlota City as a judge in Pasalamat Festival Queen 2015 last weekend, I had the pleasure of being introduced to one of the previous titleholders. And boy, did the girl wow me upon first meeting.

Her name is Kreenz Amor Cordero, aged 20 years and stands 5’7″. She won the Pasalamat title back in 2013. A Medical Technology major of the University of Negros Occidental – Recoletos (UNO-R), she is actually considering different possibilities before making the ultimate decision on whether to focus on a career as a full-pledged MedTech or otherwise.

I promised the girl to check out all pageant-related options she can commit to once in Manila. She has a Venus Raj vibe and actually looks a lot more beautiful in person.

Let’s see what I can come up with for Kreenz. ;-)

Real-life sweethearts Alexis Martinez and Marielle Arrozal are Panama-bound for Miss and Mister Wonderful World 2015

image

Marielle and Alexis will spread their love to Panama

There is a very interesting development in the search for our country’s male and female representatives to Miss and Mister Wonderful World International 2015 to be hosted in Panama come September. Alexis Martinez, who won Mr. Luzon during Mister United Continents Philippines 2015, was first to be announced as Mister Wonderful World Philippines 2015. Shortly after, I was still awaiting word as to who will be his lady counterpart for the same competition. Lo and behold, Marielle Arrozal – who happens to be the long-time girlfriend of Alexis – was appointed as Miss Wonderful World Philippines 2015. Some sort of a stroke of genius, I might add.

image Alexis and Marielle can closely coordinate on their plan of action on how to go about competing in Panama. Since Miss and Mister Wonderful World International 2015 is all about giving to the less privileged ones, I’m pretty sure both of them will find it a breeze to sincerely share their charitable side and give a concerted effort for the Philippines all throughout the pageant duration.

Good luck to both Kapampangans! And may the certified franchise holder Glenn Aparis find success in fielding Alexis and Marielle in the competition. :-)

You can always tell that Miss Universe Philippines 2013 Ara Arida is a personal favorite. Aside from staying beautiful all the time, she is easy to blog about, ever thankful with the added exposure and always comes without any kind of pretensions – an all-around joy of a beauty queen.

In this post, I am sharing with you some photos from her trip to Cebu during the Labor Day weekend where she guested in yet another episode of the Ken Alfonso-hosted travel show on GMA News TV called “Touchdown”. Together with Jonas Gaffud, they explored the still under-featured new spots in the Queen City of South, including the uber trendy Mövenpick Hotel Mactan Island Cebu which is becoming the place to stay and relax while there.

Enjoy the images of our dear Ara in this post! :-)

Miss Republic of the Philippines CEO and President Lynette Padolina is currently in Prague to select the representative of the Filipino Community-Czech Republic

missrplogo1 After Dubai and Vienna (where the very first Miss Filipina Austria Sabine Langer was crowned), the CEO and President of Miss Republic of the Philippines Lynette Padolina has moved to Prague where she will finalize the selection of the candidate that the Filipino Community of Czech Republic will send to the inaugural edition of the country’s most prestigious scholarship pageant.

Ms. Padolina is quite pleased with how things are moving with the pageant screenings and all. In fact, the regional searches here in the country are simultaneously happening with National Director Edu Pillora taking charge of things. Right now, Region 12 eliminations are in full swing with the final screening scheduled for May 21. Last week, the entries of the Province of Antique and Bacolod City have been zeroed in, with a tall, quadri-lingual Filipina with German/Portuguese descent taking the spot for the former and the reigning Masskara Queen for the latter.

More updates on Miss Republic of the Philippines in the days and weeks to come! ;-)

What are the chances of Alaiza Malinao doing Bb. Pilipinas for a second time?

image

Alaiza's JAG image during Bb. Pilipinas 2015

Bb.Pilipinas 2015 was not necessarily a life-changing experience for Alaiza Malinao. But it was such an enjoyable phase in her life that may have spurred the interest to prepare harder for a future comeback. And while I may not be the absolute judge of character, this Davaoena could be looking at skipping 2016 before even considering a second attempt. Methinks she will give it a go by 2017 at the soonest. After all, she is only 21 years old.

By then, she will be more polished, more mature, more confident and with that extra spark to make her bid stronger and hard-to-ignore.

I’ll be waiting for that time, my dear Alaiza! ;-)

Interesting watch: Men’s Standards of Beauty Around the World

$

menaroundworld1 I was checking out the BuzzFeed site yesterday and came across the more-than-a-month-old article and video (watch below) collaborated upon by Eugene Yang, Eli Vazquez and Kari Koeppel where they compared the “ideal man” attributes of twelve (12) different countries, including the Philippines.

Below is an excerpt, particularly the findings on our country.

• “Hottest” male celebrities: James Reid, Daniel Padilla, Piolo Pascual
• Contemporary Filipino masculinity is a result of mixing local attitudes with those of Spanish and U.S. colonization.
• In traditional Filipino masculinity, important qualities are supporting the family, sexual virility, and being in control.
• In recent years, the “macho ideal” has given way to a booming male beauty market as men embrace “metrosexuality.”
• In a 2004 marketing survey, 84% of men in Manila agreed to the sentiment that “looks are everything.”
• Many Facebook respondents noted that foreign influence for ideal looks and style traditionally came from the country’s Spanish and American ties but is now heavily influenced by Korean pop culture.

Photographer Mihaela Noroc took pictures of female beauty around the world

After focusing on men in the previous post, let’s go to the ladies now.

Mihaela Noroca photographer from Romania and the author of an unique project –The Atlas of Beauty – travelled and captured the natural and diverse beauty of women around the world – thirty-seven (37) countries in particular.

Her findings no longer surprise me. “Female beauty is everywhere.” Indeed.

And since female beauty is literally everywhere, this is one of the main reasons why we will never run out of annual beauty pageants to celebrate their diversity in femininity. ;-)

Throwback Thursday: Justine Gabionza, Miss Tourism Queen International 2006

MTQI2006 Justine Gabionza (middle) and her court

While Miss Tourism Queen International remains to be a highly-criticized beauty pageant because of the organizers’ inability to conduct the annual event for two of our more recent Bb. Pilipinas Tourism titleholders (Katrina Dimaranan and Parul Shah) to compete in, do keep in mind that we have already achieved quite a good measure of success in the China-based tilt back in 2006 when our very own Justine Gabionza (an elemental runner-up – Miss Philippines Air – during MPE2002) won the title. Her participation in the same wasn’t sponsored by BPCI, though, since another group still held the franchise prior.

Watch her crowning moment in this video now.

After her MTQI reign, Justine went back to her regular life as a commercial model. And even if being a former international pageant winner was no longer played around that much when going to TVC castings and the like, she still successfully bagged a number of them through sheer natural beauty and screen presence. Below is a sample of one of her boob-tube works.

valerieweigmann1 Who among you have been to Filinvest City and chanced upon riding one of the electric jeepneys doing the 360 Eco-loop? Well, don’t be surprised to find out that one of our reigning Beauty Queens is behind the successful use of the Evee-i (Electric Vehicle Expansion Enterprises Inc.) in that initial route. Together with her business partners Bodie Pulido, Rommel Juan and Yuri Sarmiento, Miss World Philippines 2014 Valerie Weigmann has invested more than her time and energy in making this venture fully functional.

Valerie calls the Evee-i a “green alter ego” – her significant pitch for the environment, if you will. In fact, she has been involved in the same even before she won MWP2014 last year. And you can tell the excitement in her eyes just explaining the significant advantages of using the electric jeepneys. She hopes that other key business and commercial areas in the country will follow suit.

eveei2 As she herself stated, “I’m so proud to have co-found EVEE-I. We started the Electric Vehicle Expansion Enterprises, Inc. (EVEE-I) with a simple goal – help stop air pollution and prevent further climate change. Unlike most businesses, ours was mission-driven: dedicated from the very beginning to be socially and environmentally responsible. Profit was not our bottom-line. Instead, our framework is to measure our success by how much we can positively contribute to society.

Let’s hope the right persons are listening. It’s high time that the busy urban areas start implementing the use of the Evee-i. ;-)
