Another Cebuana to invade the national pageants - Bea Luigi Gomez

Another Cebuana to invade the national pageants – Bea Luigi Gomez

luigigomez21 The Queen City of the South seems to be churning out one standout beauty after the next. Last year, Bb. Pilipinas Intercontinental 2014 Kris Tiffany Janson, Mutya ng Pilipinas Asia-Pacific International 2014 Eva Psychee Patalinjug and MPE2014/Miss Earth 2014 Jamie Herrell rose to victories in their respective national pageants and internationally for two of them. And just last March 15, Rogelie Catacutan continued with the streak by claiming the crown of Bb. Pilipinas Supranational 2015.

From AD Models Cebu – Homme et Femme, a new name and face should start conquering Manila by 2016. Her name is Bea Luigi Gomez, a 20 year-old 5’8″ fashion model who has been undergoing a series of training by the people behind Admodels Stylefirm of Dexter Alazas. And FYI, she is the cousin of former Miss Tourism International Rizzini Gomez.

Just a week back, she got her first taste of regional pageantry by joining and placing 2nd Runner-Up in Miss Mandaue 2015. And between now and year end, she will be immersed in further improvement sessions to keep her in good stead for Bb. Pilipinas 2016 or Miss World Philippines 2015 (if they so decide).

Remember the name. Bea Luigi Gomez. She will become more and more visible in the upcoming weeks and months to come. ;-)

All of 18 years and with a bright future in the pageant world is Angelu Gonzales who is Candidate No. 22 in the ongoing Slimmers World Miss Bikini Philippines 2015. A Sophomore taking up BS Accountancy at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP), she is a Dean’s Lister with several talents. This girl sings professionally, does part-time modeling, can play a mean game of table tennis and spends idle time with her Rubix Cube.

Angelu has a lot of potentials going to her advantage should she move on from this competition and try her luck in other beauty contest fronts. With a good height of 5’8″ complimented by enviable vital stats of 34-23-34, she can still train harder for the more big league of our nationals.

Rattikorn Kunsom after being crowned Miss Grand Thailand 2015

Rattikorn ‘Promai’ Kunsom was crowned Miss Grand Thailand 2015 last night at Huamark Indoor Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand. She takes over the crown of her predecessor Parapadsorn Disdamrong who represented the Land of Smiles in both Miss Grand International 2014 (where she finished in the Top 10) and Miss Supranational 2014 (where she was 1st Runner-Up).

Tharathip Sukdarunpat was named Miss Supranational Thailand 2015 and technically the 2nd highest Placer now that the Miss Earth franchise is no longer being held by Pageant owner Nawatt Itsaragrisil. Dusky beauty Boonyanee ‘Bow’ Sungpirom took the Miss Intercontinental Thailand 2015 title from reigning Miss Intercontinental 2014 Patraporn Wang. Chonlalee Chonticha Imjanya was elected Miss Tourism Thailand 2015 and No. 15 was the sole Runner-Up, respectively.

Throwback Thursday: The Tallest Filipina Beauty Contestant Ever

$

imageimageBefore 2009, Jennifer Mendoza (Miss Mindanao or 3rd Runner-Up during Miss RP 1976/77) was the tallest beauty contest participant in the world, measuring 6’4.5″.

During Miss Earth 2009, though, Aheu Deng of South Sudan wasn’t just the tallest beauty contestant ever, but also the tallest beauty queen who participated in a major international beauty competition. She measured 6’4.8″. While she lost then, she left a mark and a (unofficial) record that remains unbeaten up to now.

Going back to Jennifer Mendoza, there is very little to be researched about her. All I know is that she kept a very low profile after her pageant stint and actually had a medical condition – I believe it had something to do with goiter or the like – years later.

At least, it’s good to know that we have already produced the second-tallest beauty pageant joiner both here and abroad. ;-)

Miss Baguio City Sofia Loren Deliu in her latest pictorial

image Sofia Loren Deliu, Miss Baguio City in the ongoing Miss Philippines Earth 2015, continues to give her best in every pre-pageant event of the competition. While a quick check on the list of running favorites does not include her name yet, there is still time to make a good fight to the finish just like the victory she earned during the MPE2015-sponsored 3K run in Batangas a couple of weeks back.

Once given the right break to prove her worth, Sofia can definitely prove to everyone that she is very much qualified to become the next lead Earth Warrior of the Philippines for Miss Earth 2015. ;-)

Here’s another beauty pageant for you, beautiful ladies, out there.

Miss Global Philippines 2015 – now on its 2nd year – is now open for screening. Last year’s inaugural was a success with the crowning of Catherine Almirante as the top winner and extending her triumph by placing 2nd Runner-Up in the Miss Global 2014 World Finals which took place inside a Royal Princess cruise ship that sailed from the US to Mexico. Three of four members of her court also went on to represent the country internationally. There is Athena Catriz who won 3rd Runner-Up in Miss Summer International, Cindy Madumma who participated in Miss Tourism World hosted in Venezuela and Lorraine Erum who flew to the island of Fiji for the World Supermodel 2015 competition.

National Director Pauline Laping and Operations Manager Stephany Stefanowitz (Miss Air 2013) promise to make this year’s search bigger than the last, reason why they can’t wait to see the promising ladies who will join the beeline for 2015.

Visit the pageant’s official website for more details or you can send a PM on their Facebook page for inquiries. You may also call (02) 9566383.

P. S. Oh, and by the way, this is the pageant open to accepting single moms as candidates. ;-)

alyanna41 carla21 They are the twin peaks of Laguna – Alyanna Cagandahan of Sta. Cruz and Carla Valderrama of Siniloan. They are the best bets of the Southern Tagalog province to figure out well in the May 31 Coronation Night of Miss Philippines Earth 2015.

For both, their inclusion among the ten (10) Hana Beauties of Nature is a good sign that their bids in the competition are getting favorable notice. And for the latter of the two, winning the Best in Casual Wear Gold Medal adds a dash of encouragement.

But is the rise to pageant fame still trailing the strengths of leaders Angelia Ong and Chanel Olive Thomas? We are all aware that the entries of the City of Manila and San Antonio, Nueva Ecija are comfortably ahead in the eyes of many. My gut-feel is that they are comfortably looking at Top 10 placements or perhaps making the elemental circle at best for now. Anything more victorious – like the top of the field – remains up in the air. Close enough to be seen, but still a bit too high to reach.

We’ll see. ;-)

enavelasco11 The onslaught of beauties of Cebu continues. This time, the winner of the recently-concluded Miss Mandaue 2015 comes to your screen. Her name is Ena Velasco, standing 5’9″ and a product of Sven Chua’s Origin Model Management which handles the modeling careers of Jamie Herrell and Gazini Ganados.

Back in 2012, Ena was named Miss Masskara in Bacolod. A year after, she went on to claim the Miss Southwestern University title which awarded her a meaningful prize – 100% scholarship to take up her Medicine studies in the institution. In between, she takes ramp and print modeling assignments for earn her own keep.

But being part of KF Cebu could only mean that Jonas Borces will groom her for Bb. Pilipinas, either next year or 2017. So do you think she has the potentials to follow the likes of Kris Tiffany Janson and Rogelie Catacutan in the nationals? ;-)

johnpia11 This is how Fitness Guru John Cuay (left photo with Pia) described the video above:

Pia’s workout for the day weighted pelvic raise to stimulate the muscle fibers of the hamstring, glutes , the core ( more on the posterior musculature) . She did 4 sets of 20 reps. One of her 15 weight training workouts that she did at GOLDS GYM GLORIETTA.

Keep in mind that this is just one of the fifteen (15) weight training workouts John Cuay has designed for Pia. There are fourteen (14) other demanding routines our Queen has to regularly go through, like other variations of core functional training exercises (see video below) and mermaid rotations.

courtesy of The Emerald and John Cuay

This is how John captioned the routine above:

Pia is doing a core functional training exercise. This is a 2 opposing extremity pillar rotating table top. Working in every muscle of her body. In this picture the prime mover is the left glutes and hamstring once she reach her end range. The core works as the stabilizer all throughout. The purpose for this specifically for Pia is to stimulate leaness on her glutes and hamstring, simultaneously working the 29 muscles of the core together at the same time, both for strengthening and to improve trunk stability ( u wonder how Ara Arida effortlessly twirled in swimsuit during MU 13? – cores conditioned)…

PS: this is an advance level core workout, I do not recommend this to anyone who is not core conditioned.“

Truly, being Miss Universe Philippines is never easy, let alone being a national beauty queen.

But Pia is not complaining. She’s in it for the long run! ;-)

By the end of the month, Jamie Herrell will be relinquishing the first of her two major titles for 2014. Miss Philippines Earth, that is. And while she will miss being the country’s top beauty for Mother Earth, there is still the bigger Miss Earth 2015 to look forward to. Here is where she will be significantly involved from planning, promotions, filming all the way to becoming a big sister to the foreign candidates.

And she’s not even 21 years of age! (that will happen on July 12)

So is Jamie ready to move on from Miss Philippines Earth? She clearly is. After all, she won’t stop being a true advocate of the environment after this month. In fact, she may have already committed herself to start some eco-tourism projects in her beloved Cebu.

Keep it up, Jamie! ;-)

Jamie Herrell wore this Leo Almodal gown en route to winning Miss Earth 2014

Now this news literally hits close to home because the proponent is one of two Members of the House of Representatives in Parañaque City where I reside. Rep. Eric L. Olivarez has just submitted House Bill 5691, or the “Filipino Fashion Designers for Filipino beauty Pageants Contestants Act of 2015“. In a news item by Inquirer.net, it made mention of the objective of the bill – to get a Filipino involved (as Team Head) in the designing of the wardrobe of our beauty queens.

The bill is obviously targeted at Bb. Pilipinas which – for many years now – has been using gowns made by Colombian designer Alfredo Barraza for Miss Universe purposes. And if we track back to 1999, you will also remember that Miriam Quiambao reportedly wore a Bob Mackie creation during the finals in Trinidad & Tobago where she finished 1st Runner-Up to Mpule Kwelagobe.

Below is the initial reaction of Aces & Queens’ Jonas Gaffud on the matter.

image

Above is the comment of Jonas Gaffud on the proposed bill

As far as I’m concerned, I don’t really agree with matters getting this far. Do we really need a house bill to protect the creative talent of the Filipino designer? Have we turned helpless that a law needs to be enacted just to make things happen our way?

I’m not sure how divided the pageant fans will be on the matter. It’s not like a tax evasion issue that the Government has full control over. We are talking of just one private organization that needs to make serious adjustments in their wardrobe practices for international pageants.

And I’m really wondering which group lobbied for the bill to be submitted to Congress. This concern can be amicably settled once and for all. Don’t get me wrong. I am 100% supportive of the Filipino design shining in the international pageant stage from start to finish. A law is just gilding the lily the wrong way, overkill at worst.

Your thoughts, dear readers?

A dozen of our national beauty titleholders (plus runners-up and a Canadian-Pinay BQ) who posed on the cover of FHM Philippines

Filipina by heart, Priscilla Meirelles-Estrada was on the cover of FHM back in 2010

Posing for a magazine like FHM is a curse to beautiful Filipinas aspiring to become beauty queens, but not after becoming or placing in one years after the reign. And this is exactly what these ladies bravely decided to go into when the risks were no longer high.

Bb. Pilipinas titleholders Maggie Wilson, Carlene Aguilar, Bianca Manalo, Nina Ricci Alagao, Joanne Santos, Danielle Castano and Alice Dixson. Miss Philippines Earth 2002 April Ross Perez. Bb. Pilipinas runners-up Rich Asuncion (aka Richelle Angalot) and Wendy Valdez. Miss World Philippines 2nd Princess Chloe Dauden (aka Chloe McCully). Fil-Canadian rep of Canada to Miss Universe, Miss World and Miss Earth Riza Santos. And one-time Bb. Pilipinas Official Candidate Francine Prieto (aka Anna Marie Falcon). And let’s also add Miss Earth 2004 Priscilla Meirelles who, while Brazilian, remains Filipino by heart on top of being married to local actor John Estrada.

Bb. Pilipinas Universe Joanne Santos (with Jackie Forster) on FHM

Truth be told, I don’t have anything against beauty queen-wannabes who decided to pose for magazines like FHM prior to signing up for national pageants. For as long as their pictorials were done tastefully, go ahead. But then again, that’s just my own take. And I’m not the one running the pageant, after all.

Angelu Gonzales shows us how limber she can get (Photo credit: Lito Caleon)

You only get to see this segment in bodybuilding competitions and the like (or out-of-the-box editorial shoots). Ordinary beauty pageants do not require their candidates to go into such mode. But this is where Slimmers World Miss Bikini Philippines 2015 carves a unique niche that puts it somewhere in between a beauty and bodybuilding contest – Creative Posing.

This is such a tricky proposition, I must say. Not only is the poser required to display how flexible her body is, she needs to look good and the least bit awkward in every move that she makes. Endless snapshots of media photographers can always catch an individual in odd positions or worse, an embarrassing curl or geometrical pause that achieved flat success.

image

More creative poses from the ladies (Photo credit: Lito Caleon)

This could be the longest minute or minute and a half for all the candidates of Slimmers World Miss Bikini Philippines 2015. And the real pros when it comes to posing and stretching their arms, legs and look their best will score the highest points here.

Mister United Continent 2015 will run from May 15-31, with the finals scheduled for May 29 at the Tanghalang Pasigueño. By now, the candidates have started arriving one by one. Mister Australia Michael Catayas was the first one to check-in. And so far, the entries of Guam, Canada, Pakistan, Dominican Republic, Borneo, Myanmar, Indonesia and Malaysia have followed suit. Mister Philippines Reynaldo Cataluna III is now actively playing the role of host delegate to everyone.

More arrivals are expected today and tomorrow. Photoshoots have started. And once the cast is complete, the pre-pageant activities will begin, including the candidates’ local tours and important preliminary events.

Best of luck to the organizers! :-)

P.S. The reps of Angola and India have also landed as well.

The objective of this project is very simple. The raw coconut oil is ready for export. Jinder Atwal (an Indian-Canadian residing in Terrace, BC) and Anastasia Lin (a Chinese-Canadian representing Toronto) are now the representatives of Canada in this year’s Mister World and Miss World, respectively.

What’s extra interesting are their professional backgrounds. 6’1″Jinder Atwal is a graduate of Cellular Molecular Genetics who is into entrepreneurial endeavors that allow him to shuttle back and forth between Canada and Southeast Asia. 5’6″ Anastasia Lin, on the other hand, is considered an international film star and model who has appeared in a number of co-productions (including 20 credits in film and TV) and is a human rights activist.

Both winners will now be busy preparing for their respective international competitions which should take place during the last quarter of 2015. Congratulations! :-)

Bb. Pilipinas International 2014 Bianca Guidotti and her dog on a morning walk

Well, what do you know. My favorite Binibini is now a blogger! It only means that I can call her my colleague as well.

Bb. Pilipinas International 2014 Mary Anne Bianca Guidotti opened her blog yesterday, and the url is called adoptanngo.wordpress.com or, simply put, adoptanngo.com. And here is where she will translate her thoughts into penned articles that will touch on a subject matter she knows like the palm of her hand – NGOs. Her approach is to talk less about too much drama, and instead, link hard facts and statistics that will make her topics more real and heartfelt.

Here is what she has to say about starting her own blog:

“So this is what I’ll be up to, hopefully for years to come and somehow I can make it something bigger so I can help more. If there is an organization that you support, with an upcoming event, please click “Connect” and fill out the form so I can write about it. Thank you @normant for inspiring me 😘. Here we go…”

Many thanks, my dear Bianca. To state that I inspired you to start a blog is something that I will always treasure because I know that you have only the best of interest to share and to inspire others with your vision.

Now if you, dear readers, have a charity or cause that you want Bianca to blog about, feel free to send her an email to: maryannebiancaguidotti@yahoo.com

She would love to hear from you! :-D
